Company History

Capital Packers Inc., an 82-year-old meat processing company (started in 1929), is located in Edmonton, Alberta. The company is third generation, family owned and privately held, employing approximately 100 skilled workers, many of them long term.

The evolution of the company includes its beginnings as an abattoir. Critical success in the company’s history was obtained when it became licensed as a federal processor (of processed and smoked meats), in the early 1960’s. The plant was HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certified, July 2003 and is SQF (Safe Quality Food) accredited, April 2010.

Edmonton was the hub of the meat processing industry in Western Canada for many, many years. Well known companies such as Swifts, Burns, Gainers, Canada Packers had abattoirs and processing plants in the area. Over the years most of the companies have either merged with larger processors, moved out of the area or closed their doors. Capital Packers is the only remaining meat processor in Edmonton at this time, which is an indicator that this company has met the changing needs of the customer over the years.

Presently, the company produces 153 varieties of fresh meats, 13 varieties of cooked meats, 151 varieties of smoked meats and nine varieties of pickled meats. Branding of products contains a blend of Capital branded and private label products. Our valued customer base includes hotels, restaurants, institutions, distributors, grocery chains and box stores.
